About This Show

"BLOOM" is a groundbreaking, two-hour-long musical that defies convention through its multifaceted portrayal of women and innovative exploration of the issue of gentrification. The form of the project is a musical theatre production, a symphony of music, dance, narrative, and defiance. In the story of "BLOOM," Arachne, a stubborn but passionate artist with a flair for impulsivity, longs to be a successful weaver and artist, but is stifled by the cruel Gods who lord over her small village. Her community is close-knit and caring, but have long since accepted their fates as second-class citizens. While Arachne implores her fellow villagers to rise up in revolution, they deny her, insisting that this is how it's always been and that they are powerless to change it. Meanwhile, the Goddess Athena, a fellow weaver, yearns for recognition from the male Gods of Olympus, who dismiss her. She and the other Gods, Zeus, Poseidon, and Apollo, plot to seize the villagers' lifeblood, the marketplace, a crucial hub of commerce and community. When Arachne learns of this plan, she challenges the Goddess to a weaving contest to test whether a mortal is capable of outshining a God, with the winner gaining full control of the marketplace. Will Arachne triumph in the contest and free her people at last and, more importantly, if Arachne wins, will the Gods honor her victory? Considering this story is driven by the need for revolution and the burning desire to create change in your community, its themes are more relevant now than ever. In the face of tyranny, art can have the power to inspire and connect people. I believe "BLOOM" can provide that much-needed sense of hope and be the catalyst people need.
