Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about New Musicals.
What is newmusicals.net?
It's a free discovery platform for musical theatre composers, lyricists, and book writers — and for the producers, artistic directors, and literary managers who are looking for new work to produce.
Composers build a profile, add their shows, and embed their YouTube, TikTok, and SoundCloud content directly on clean, shareable show pages. Producers and theaters can search and filter by cast size, genre, band size, and about 90 other tags to find shows that actually fit what they're looking for.
No uploading. No catch.
Why does this exist?
Because the way producers find new musicals is still mostly word of mouth, expensive festivals, and knowing the right people. That's fine if you're already connected. It's a real barrier if you're not.
A lot of extraordinary new musicals never find their audience — not because the work isn't good, but because the right producer never heard it. We're trying to close that gap.
Who built this?
My name is Daniel Kuney. I'm a Broadway general manager — I've been working in theater since 2002, and I've managed productions on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and across the country.
I built an earlier version of this site during the pandemic called 10glo. It didn't work the way I hoped, mostly because I asked composers to upload their videos directly, which meant their content lived on my platform instead of their own YouTube channels. That was backwards.
newmusicals.net fixes that. Your content stays on your channels. Your views count toward your own metrics. I just provide the show page and the discovery layer on top.
Is it really free?
Yes. Free to create a profile. Free to add shows. Free to embed videos. Free to be discovered.
I'm not currently monetizing the platform. My goal right now is to build something genuinely useful for the musical theatre community. If that changes down the road, I'll be transparent about it.
What's in it for composers?
A clean, shareable home for your work that's built specifically for musical theatre — not a general music platform, not a personal website you have to maintain, not a social media feed that buries your catalog under the algorithm.
Your show page has a permanent URL that looks professional and is easy to share with anyone. When you add collaborators to a show, the production appears on all of their profiles too. And because your videos embed from YouTube, TikTok, or SoundCloud, every view still counts toward your own channel.
What's in it for producers, artistic directors, and literary managers?
A searchable, filterable database of new musicals with embedded demos — organized the way you actually think about projects.
Looking for a small cast contemporary musical with a four-piece band? Filter for it. Looking for a sung-through show with roles for older women? Filter for that. The 90+ tags on the platform are designed around the questions producers actually ask when they're looking for their next project.
Who can join?
Any composer, lyricist, or book writer working on original musical theatre. You don't need a Broadway credit or a festival placement. You just need to be serious about your work.
We're in beta right now, which means we're being thoughtful about who we invite in first — but if you're reading this, you're welcome to sign up.
What does "beta" mean?
It means the site is real and working, but we're still building. Features are being added regularly. Things occasionally break. Your feedback is genuinely valuable — not in a polite way, but in a "this directly shapes what we build next" way.
If something is missing, broken, or confusing, please tell us. There's a contact form at the bottom of this page, and I read everything.
How is this different from other platforms?
Most music platforms aren't built for musical theatre. They don't understand cast sizes, band sizes, or the difference between a revue and a book musical. General portfolio sites don't know what a dramaturg is looking for. Social media buries your catalog.
newmusicals.net is built specifically for this community, by someone who works in it every day.
What's coming next?
We're iterating quickly. Recent additions include TikTok embeds, SoundCloud playlist support, and age-group designations for shows. On the roadmap: better search tools for producers, more filtering options, and ways for composers to connect with each other.
You can follow along on our What's New page. If there's a feature you'd like to see, tell us — the best ideas so far have come directly from composers using the site.
