Austine Bambrook

Alongside a career in design, Austine writes fiction, creative non-fiction, short plays, and the book for original musicals that blend emotional realism with theatricality, often drawing on folk traditions, political undercurrents, and deeply human contradictions. In 2025, Austine’s short stories were published in multiple anthologies and magazines and had a short play performed off West End. Her current musical projects include Chiff, a folk-influenced musical inspired by the history of Robert Clarke, the inventor of the tin whistle, and La Pequeña, a flamenco musical exploring artistry, family, fame, and what happens when passion becomes labour. Austine’s work is especially interested in people caught between worlds — tradition and reinvention, duty and desire, performance and truth — with a strong focus on emotionally complex characters and socially resonant themes. As a late-diagnosed autistic transgender woman, Austyn brings a distinctive perspective to stories about identity, belonging, and self-authorship.
